Welcome to San Diego! We are in Balboa Park in search of the best free things to do, panoramic views, and craft beers. Balboa Park is a National Historic Landmark and the stunning Churrigueresque style architecture of many of the buildings date back to 1915. Here, we explore one of the best panoramic view of San Diego and enjoy many free gardens and museums.
Behind the Scenes San Diego Vlog:
1. San Diego Botanical Garden
This iconic landmark was built in 1915 and is one of the most beautiful photo shoot locations for its unique domed architecture and reflective lily pond. The interior is filled with ferns, palms, and exotic orchids. The gardens are free to enter from 10am - 4pm.
2. Timken Museum of Art
This building stands out in the park for its Modern style architecture, with sleek lines and symmetry. The museum contains a small gallery and has free admission.
3. Street Performances
Balboa park is known for being a hot spot of street performances, dances, and musical performances. Stroll through the park and you can catch the talent along the way.
4. Open Air Sculpture Garden
Balboa Park contains many eye catching sculptures along the plaza, all of which is free to view.
5. San Diego Museum of Art
The San Diego Museum contains a small gallery of everything from Contemporary art to South East Asian art. There are free docent tours with admission.
6. San Diego Museum of Man -
The museum has an entry charge, but features some of the most thought provoking exhibits including "Inter+Race" which explores race and identity, and "What's on our Plate" - the story behind what types of meat we eat around the world.
7. California Tower -
We climb the tower for the best panoramic views from the top of the harbor, downtown, Balboa park. The tower dates back to 1915, and was recently reopened for Balboa Park's Centennial in 2015. There are timed tours that cost $22 each.

8. International Cottages -
The international cottages house a sampling of the heritage from many of the countries with a presence in San Diego. On weekends, they frequently have performances, open houses with food, and heritage celebrations. We sampled tea from England, waffles from Denmark , saw a Panamanian performance, and got our names written in Mandarin.
9. Craft Beer:
San Diego is synonymous with craft brews and one of the kings of the movement is Ballast Point. We checked out the tasting room which had tours and a huge selection of craft beers.

San Diego is famous for its surf. There are many areas to view the panoramic ocean views. Our favorite for the best surf is Swami's beach.
